Susan Mach

Born and raised in Southern California, Susan Mach grew up among creative family members who appreciated the arts. She was encouraged to explore bugs and flowers, as well as architecture and tools. She attended UC Santa Barbara, where she earned a BA in Studio Art (emphasis in printmaking) and a secondary teaching credential. Unable to find a teaching position after graduation, Susan joined the Peace Corps and served as a volunteer in Kenya, East Africa, helping women’s groups organize income generating projects. After returning from Kenya, Susan was employed as a public high school art/ceramics teacher in Southern California. While teaching, she continued to further study ceramics at a local community college and through workshops. During her teaching career she took a one year leave of absence to travel to Chocolá, Guatemala where she worked at an archaeological site drawing artefacts. Susan retired after 30 years of teaching in Southern California. She continues to create at her home studio in Silver City, New Mexico.
